Wheat Puttu and Kadala Curry

Puttu is actually a south Indian dish we use to prepare it with rice flour , here I am preparing wheat puttu as it is tasty yet healthy too. Puttu taste well with sugar but today we can try something different that is kadala curry.

Lets try our delicious Puttu and Kadala curry......


  • Wheat flour - 1 cup

  • fresh grated coconut - 1 cup

  • Salt - 1 pinch

  • sugar - 1/4 tsp

  • water 1/4 cup


  • In a bowl add wheat flour , sugar , salt mix it well. Add water very less and mix it till you get a moisture in the flour.Add more water till the flour is mixed well.

  • The puttu mix should be non-sticky but have moisture in the mix.

  • keep it aside for 10 mins or so.

  • After 10 to 15 mins put the puttu mix in a Puttu cooker as a layer of first mix then fresh grated coconut then puttu mix so on.

  • Let it cook for 10 to 15 mins.

  • Your wheat puttu is ready.

 Wheat puttu is very ease to prepare and tastes delicious.


  • Onion puree - 1 cup

  • Tomato puree - 1 cup

  • Oil

  • Mustard

  • Curry leaves

  • Turmeric powder

  • Chilli powder

  • Coriander powder

  • Garam masala

  • Fresh coriander leaves

  • Shallots 3 nos


  1. Kadala soak in water overnight.

  2. Pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistle

  3. In a pan add oil mustard seeds chopped shallots then curry leaves fry it.. Then add ginger garlic paste.

  4. Add onion puree fry till it changes colour then add tomato puree...cook it till raw smell goes off.

  5. Then add all the masalas . Add some water and cook for 10 mins so that masala get cooked.

  6. Add the boiled chenna dal(mash little amount of boiled chenna)and the water we used for boiling(it gives nice color) to the gravy.

  7. Add water according to the consistency of the gravy we need.For puttu we need to add more water to the gravy.

  8. Add fresh chopped coriander leaves .

  9. Kadala curry is ready to serve.
