Chakka Varattiyathu

Jack fruit is a famous fruit in the southern part of India, especially in Kerala. Even in Tamilnadu, there is a great fan of this fruit. It is the only fruit in which we get so much energy and also other vital things.

When Jack fruit is raw we use it for making curries and poriyal, even the seed inside is used to make poriyal which tastes delicious. And when it becomes a fruit we get a yummy chakka chulas(the edible yellow part of the fruit)It is also used for chips making. Today we are making yummy and delicious sweet using this chulas.

Let's start preparing chakka varattiyathu...


  • Jack Fruit - 1 cup

  • Jaggery - 1 cup

  • Ghee - 1/2 cup

  • Cardamom -few

  • grated coconut - few

  • chukku - 1 tbsp

  • water as required


  • In a pan add jaggery and let it melt so that we can strain it and keep it aside.

  • In another pan add little ghee and add the chopped chakka chulas(yellow edible part of the fruit) and saute it well. Add little water and let it get cooked well.

  • Once the chakka is cooked add the melted jaggery and stir it continuously so that it gets mixed up well.

  • Slightly fry the grated coconut and add it to the chakka.

  • Add crushed cardamom and chukku to it.

  • Mix everything well till we get a fine texture.

  • chakka varattiyathu is ready to serve.

  • Serve it hot it tastes heavenly.
